Itineraries

Day 1

Colombo-Sigiriya

Meet and greet by Serendipity Tours representative and  drive to hotel in Sigiriya. The journey from Colombo to Sigiriya takes about 4-5 hours by road, covering approximately 175 kilometers. Your car offers flexibility and comfort during the journey. The route passes through diverse landscapes, from urban sprawl to lush countryside, small villages, and paddy fields. We recommend an early morning departure to avoid traffic and enhance your sightseeing time. You will be visiting many fascinating places today, such as Pinnawala elephant orphanage, Dambulla golden temple, and later Minneroya National Park.

Visit the Dambulla Royal Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which is a World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka.

Kaudulla National Park: In the evening, at 2 p.m., we will visit Kadulla, or Minneriya National Park, which is the most famous area for Sri Lankan elephant gathering.

Day 2

Sigiriya-Polonnaruwa-Sigiriya

After breakfast, you will venture on a day trip of Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, which offers a fascinating glimpse into Sri Lanka's ancient heritage. Start your trip early with the Sigiriya Rock Fortress Tour. Later, take a one-hour drive eastward to Polonnaruwa, the mediaeval capital renowned for its well-preserved archaeological treasures. Explore the ancient city's highlights, including the Royal Palace complex, Gal Vihara Buddha statues, and the impressive Rankoth Vehera stupa. After lunch, visit the Parakrama Samudra reservoir before heading back to Sigiriya in the late afternoon. The round trip covers roughly 60 kilometres each way, and hiring a private driver ensures the most efficient use of time.

Day 3

Sigiriya-Dambulla-Kandy

The journey from Sigiriya to Kandy via Dambulla showcases Sri Lanka's cultural triangle at its finest. Begin your day after breakfast at the hotel, then drive 30 minutes to Dambulla's Golden Cave Temple, a UNESCO site housing impressive Buddha statues and vibrant frescoes. After lunch, embark on the two-hour scenic drive to Kandy, winding through spice gardens and tea plantations. In Kandy, visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic and stroll around the serene lake. The entire route spans about 90 kilometres and takes a full day, with the flexibility to make stops at spice gardens or cultural demonstrations along the way. In the afternoon, go on a Kandy sightseeing tour.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic: Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy.

Royal Botanical Gardens: Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya, are about 5.5 km to the west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. 1.2 million locals and 400,000 foreign visitors visited the garden in 2016. It is near the Mahaweli River. It is renowned for its collection of orchids.

Day 4

Kandy-Ramboda-Ella

The journey from Kandy to Ella via Ramboda is one of Sri Lanka's most scenic routes, famous for its winding mountain roads and tea-covered landscapes. The trip begins in Kandy, climbing through mist-draped hills to Ramboda, where a dramatic waterfall offers a perfect midway stop. The journey continues through emerald tea estates, with opportunities to visit tea factories and witness tea plucking. Once you arrive in Nuwara Eliya, you will embark on a scenic hill country train from Nanu Oya to Ella. The train winds through the cloud forests of Haputale before arriving at Ella, a charming hill town renowned for its Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam's Peak. The 130-kilometre journey typically takes 5-6 hours, with stops making it a full-day adventure.

Ramboda: En route, we will visit Ramboda Waterfall, Tea Factory Tour, Plantation and stop for view points.

Nuwara Eliya: Nuwara Eliya, also known as Little England, stops for a short walk around the city, then gets to the railway station of Nanu Oya, which is close to Nuwara Eliya City, and catches the train at 3pm heading to Ella. The most famous train ride in Sri Lanka.

Ella: An Urban Council governs Ella, a small town in the Badulla District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka.

Day 5

Ella- Yala

After having an early breakfast at the hotel, begin your Ella sightseeing tour; later, continue your journey to the south coast wildlife resort of Yala. The journey from Ella to Yala National Park transitions dramatically from misty mountains to coastal wilderness. Departing Ella's hill country, the three-hour drive descends through winding roads and tea plantations before entering the southern plains. The landscape gradually shifts to dry zone scrubland as you approach Yala. The 130-kilometer route passes through Wellawaya and Tissamaharama, where you can stop at ancient temples or local markets. As you near Yala, wildlife sightings become possible along the road. It's best to start early to reach Yala by midday, allowing time for an afternoon safari to spot leopards, elephants, and other wildlife.

You will be visiting Little Adam's Peak View Point, so you should get up early if you really want to see the sunrise.

The Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge located in Sri Lanka.

Ravana Ella Falls: On the way to Yala, we pass by the Ravana Waterfall and stop for great pictures.

Day 6

Yala-Mirissa-Bentota

Start the day very early morning with a yala safari. We will leave the hotel at 5 a.m. to go to Yala National Park for a morning safari lasting 4 hours. After the wildlife-watching tour, continue the journey to the south coast beach resort. On the way to Mirissa, we stop for lunch at Miriisa and Galle Fort.

The coastal journey from Yala to Bentota via Mirissa showcases Sri Lanka's stunning southern shoreline. Leave Yala's wilderness early, driving west along the coast road to reach Mirissa, famous for its whale watching and pristine beaches. After lunch and possible beach time in Mirissa, continue along the scenic coastal highway through Galle, where you can briefly explore the historic Dutch fort. The final stretch to Bentota offers views of stilt fishermen and golden beaches. The entire journey covers about 280 kilometres, taking 6-7 hours with stops, and combines wildlife, colonial heritage, and tropical beach views.

Bentota-Colombo
